Snow Leopard exhibit

Feb. 2010- During the Snow Days event
This may be a stupid question, but does it ever snow in LA? (real snow that is, I understand this is fake snow) and especially in the part of the city where the zoo is (I think it snows in the mountains around the city)

Well, it snowed a couple of years ago in Malibu (about 35 miles from LA) and just last year in the city of Baldwin Park, which is about 18 miles from LA. Both cities are located in LA county. According to the National Weather Service it has not snowed in the city of Los Angeles since 1962.

When my mom first moved here from Arkansas back in 1948, she says that it snowed that winter in L.A. For a real treat, look up some of the old photographs of the L.A. Zoo from 1949, covered in snow. Just search the Los Angeles Central Library web site's photo collection. Sorry I couldn't include the link at this time, I was unable to access it.
