This photo shows only one section of what is an excellent ocelot exhibit. Lush foliage and lots of hiding places makes it difficult to spot the tiny cats.
Yes Mountain Lions, and strangely enough they didn't appear all that out-of-place. But the Ocelots are a better choice here and I agree about the glass, especially when you go around to the cave viewing area. I wonder how often they clean any of the various glassed exhibits? I think it should be a daily routine, and a broom would help with the spider webs all around the zoo.
I had wondered if that was the old Mountain Lion exhibit. We visited the LA Zoo the year Adventure Island opened. The little talking guy in the skunk exhibit was VERY weird. But I remember really enjoying that part of the zoo.
Yes, I remember when the exhibit was new (when I still lived in L.A.) with mountain lions. It was way too small for a pair of mountain lions (or even one mountain lion for that matter) and I was disappointed they would build a new exhibit to such an unacceptable size. However, for ocelots it is just about perfect.
The cave in Adventure Island was much more popular then. And though they displayed several nocturnal species inside (Cacomistle, Barn Owls where the "little man" was projected next to them; actually actress Betty White Ludden, and Vampire Bats) that always seemed hard to find; especially the Cacomistle which I never saw mind you, it was a far better layout than the current artwork and fake cave explorers. A definite need for revamping.
As zoo visitors, we really want to see LIVE wildlife. I can visit the La Brea Tar Pit artifacts at the Page Museum, and stuffed animals at the L.A. County Museum of Natural History.
I never got to see the inside of the cave before they redid it. So the exhibits where the explorers are in used to be actual exhibits? What other animals used to live in those exhibits? Why did the zoo stop having animals in there?
