Actually you are correct about the skunk exhibit having another "little man" projected on their wall as well. And that was in another cave called the "Desert Trail." They were where you now find the African Hedgehogs.
I never got to see the inside of the cave before they redid it. So the exhibits where the explorers are in used to be actual exhibits? What other animals used to live in those exhibits? Why did the zoo stop having animals in there?
Pretty much the same animals I mentioned, Barn Owls with the mini Betty White narrating where you see those dummy cave explorers. Cacomistle that were always in hiding and the Vampire Bats; all in the various glass spaces. The Tarantulas and Scorpians are still there, and you might recall Blind Cave Fish where the Axolotl now reside.
Another remodeling that never fully came to fruition, because the New Adventure Island should have also included things like a Lorikeet Aviary, and the Cave, which was to have become a live Bat exhibit. "The Bat Cave" so to speak. Even the Aquarium of the Pacific in nearby Long Beach jumped on the still very popular Lorikeet Aviary bandwagon.
