I understand that LAZ was going to have both White and Indian Rhinos in Pachyderm Forest as well as elephants, but 'thanks' to the activists (who wouldn't be pleased even if the whole of California would be given to LA's elephants) it will only be for elephants now. Do you know what will happen with the other pacyderms in at the LAZ now, i.e. rhinos and hippos?
i have no idea what will happen to the remaining Indian Rhino and Hippo. Considering how old Rhanda the Indian Rhino is I think she will stay there until she passes, but I don't know what will happen with Jabba the Hippo.

They were actually going to exhibit Black and Indian Rhinos Baldur, they haven't shown White Rhinos here for many years. They were quite successful with the Black species, being the first zoo in California to breed them, or any other species of Rhino back in the early 1970s. And later recorded a couple of Indian Rhino births as well. The loss of the Rhino program in L.A. has left a huge void in my book. And when there will ever be funds for a new state-of-the-art Hippo habitat, after being canceled from the original plans is any one's guess. And that's disappointing.
And the small Indian Rhino yard shown in the above photo, was originally a space for Malayan Tapirs.
Oh I thought it was White. But in any case, Indian and Blacks are my favourite rhinos (after Sumatran of course while White ones just are not the same.
I'd like the zoo to get Malayan Tapirs back at some point, but with Baird's and Mountain Tapir, hardly to be seen anywhere else, their Tapir porfolio is perfect as far as I'm concerned
Seeing as they already have the two rarest (in captivity) tapir species, it would be cool if they got brazilian and malayan and exhibited all 4 near each other.

Not only did they have all 4 species of tapirs, they were the first to ever display all 4 simultaneously. And I remember seeing them all on many occasions. That was once a proposed display area for tapirs at the L.A. Zoo.
