Elephants of Cambodia

As compared to the elephant exhibit of the past, 10 times better. I'd rank it with the best that I've seen (Woodland Park, St. Louis, Wild Animal Park) for its sheer size, and enrichment opportunities. I could have done with less cabled barriers, but there is adequate viewing where they are not an issue from several vantage points. Probably my biggest complaint is with the Elephants of China pavilion. Very limited viewing of the pachyderms from there. An elevated walkway would make a world of difference. And the fencing fronting the Sarus Crane and Chinese Water Deer enclosures is atrociously ugly, and takes away from decent photo ops. Surely there are better barrier choices for 2010 wouldn't you think? But overall, I love the exhibit.

Thanks for the mini review, I'm glad the zoo was able to still get the needed funding even with those Zoo-Haters.

I might also add that throughout the enclosure, along the cable barriers, there is vegetation planted that given time, and the elephants lack of appetite for them, will sprout along much of the fencing. This should create a more natural and lush appearance. Of course, I'm sure everything within their reach is edible.

Unless there is fencing attached to those cables, very little within 8' of the barrier will be there in a year.
