I have a very similar postcard of him in colour. There is no mistaking the differences between adult male Western and Eastern Lowland, Eastern is jet black over the first third of its body and with a bulkier head too.
I have just found some scans of Kaisi and the breeding male Kisubi (father of Victoria) from photos I took at Antwerp in 1972 or 1973. I'll try to tidy them up and post them here within the next week or so.
Look forward to it. I saw them once- circa 1969. I remember 'Kisubi' was slightly rangier than the rather squat 'Kaisi'. That was a terrible house they lived in- the pair of Western Lowland Gorillas 'Gust' and 'Kora' that shared it lived indoors permanently and they never went outside at all.
