One of Two Panay Cloud Rat Enclosures

This exhibit is huge for a rodent! I am not very familair with cloud rats though, how large are they?

Unfortunately, they where nowhere to be seen on my visit yesterday. And that included both enclosures. But this being a newly arrived species here, I hope for better luck on my future visits. And there was a keeper placing food through the door of this particular space, but after waiting around several more minutes, none were coaxed out of hiding. I believe they received two, so I'm guessing each has its own enclosure, unless several others have arrived.

If I'm not mistaking, I think the zoo received 4 (2.2), which is why there is two exhibits. According to ISIS, London is the only zoo (in the west) with this species other than the LA Zoo, is this correct? and if so, I wonder if that is where the LA zoo got them from...

I hope we're looking at two future breeding groups. And there is no indication as to where they were received from.

Zootierliste also lists Plzen as holding them since 2010.
