The Flemish Garden with the Education Centre in the back in ZOO Antwerpen. The Education Centre was originally built in 1898 as a dairy and produced milk for the zoo’s animals and guests until 1924. Later it was used for various storage facilities until 1973 when the Planetarium was installed. The building now functions as a proper Education Centre with the Planetarium and Zoo School.

ZOO Antwerpen, July 2011.

Wow, that is quite an elaborate building to have originally been a dairy. Very interesting, I really appreciate the background information on your posts, Toddy.

If you are a fan of zoo architecture then ZOO Antwerpen is a definite "must see". There are buildings from every era of zoo design in existence here (except maybe the really massive immersion displays). You can see buildings like this and the Egyptian Temple from the 1800's as well as the very functional and sterile houses from the 1950's (Ape House, etc.) and even new-age naturalistic exhibits (Asian Mountain, spectacled bears).

Very interesting, I really appreciate the background information on your posts, Toddy.

Thank you for the comment :) I try to get as many facts into my posts as possible so you don't have to look all around the forum to find information about the exhibits. A lot of research goes into posting photos from a zoo like Antwerpen and I am happy to do it as I can see it is appreciated.
