Wow! I use to own this picture which was actually a souvenir postcard. This is the way the zoo looked back in 1966 when I first attended, soon after it opened. I haven't seen that postcard since I was a kid!(I'm now 54).
And I'm glad to hear the theme building in back will be torn down, it's served its purpose and never was completed due to a lack of funds. Those high twin towers no longer exist due to structural hazards from termites.
Yep, he was part of the old Griffith Park Zoo. His name escapes me now. I probably saw him on several occasions at the old zoo as a young child. I was born and raised in Los Angeles.
Of course, I believe these are the Kodiak Browns. They exhibited both Kodiaks and Grizzlies in adjacent grottoes. Part of their numerous bear species back in the 1960s, as compared to only one species on exhibit today; American Black Bears.
