A view into the Ape House in ZOO Antwerpen. Here you can see the exhibits for chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) and gorillas (Gorilla beringei and gorilla gorilla gorilla). ZOO Antwerpen is the only zoo in the world where you can see eastern gorillas.
The Ape House was built in 1959 in typical 50es style with moated outdoor exhibits and originally housed bonobos, gorillas and orangutans. In 1986 the whole house was renovated and the moats removed to be replaced by covered outdoor exhibits.
