Not Mountain Zebras, they were originally exhibited in the current Okapi/Black Duiker habitat. Then on the perimeter road, across from the current Red River Hog enclosure; formerly occupied by Brindled Gnu and more recently, Wart Hogs. There use to be Damara Zebras here, but they usually have rather pale markings on their legs. But definitely a type of Plains Zebra. It's been some years since L.A. has had Mountain Zebras, which they bred quite successfully.
I always have a spot of trouble when comes to the Zebra species; I always have to refer to handbooks, from the stripes on the rear end they seemed like Mountain Zebra.
It would be nice if Los Angeles Zoo could have both Grants zebras and Grevys zebras, maybe they could put Grants zebras in with the lone ostrich and also I would like to see Mountain zebras come back and maybe they could live with the giraffes
