The first of the two indoor exhibits for gorillas (Gorilla beringei and gorilla gorilla gorilla) inside the Ape House in ZOO Antwerpen. All the indoor exhibits are furnished with climbing frames and enrichment objects though I have my doubts as to how much the gorillas use the former. ZOO Antwerpen is the only zoo in the world where you can see eastern gorillas.
The Ape House was built in 1959 in typical 50es style with moated outdoor exhibits and originally housed bonobos, gorillas and orangutans. In 1986 the whole house was renovated and the moats removed to be replaced by covered outdoor exhibits.
