On saturday was my first time seeing this species at the zoo. Although I was mad because I didn't take my camera.

They are quite shy. I've probably only seen them a half dozen times myself. Once even saw all 4 of them making their way up the hillside. I made a special trip over to their enclosure hoping for a glimpse.

A little bit of trivia for this exhibit space, at various times home to such species as Cassowary, Reeve's Muntjac and Tule Elk. It has always been lushly planted, therefore making it easy for its inhabitants to hide. But I've still never seen the Steenbok, even after making special effort to view and hopefully photograph them. Oh well, one day.

Cassowary

Are Cassowaries and Ostriches the only birds that have lived on the Hillside ? If not, which other avian species lived on the hillside in the past ?

Also I apologize for taking this thread too far off topic, but has the Los Angeles Zoo had other cassowary species besides Double wattled cassowaries ?
