These pictures were taken at the Los Angeles Zoo in the 1980's by Steve Romo. He gave me permission to post some of his remarkable photos here on ZooChat. I hope you will find them interesting!

When I look at these gorgeous photos it makes me a little sad to think of the diversity of hoofstock that used to exist in more zoos. Great pictures however!
I remember when the first pair of these little beauties arrived at the zoo back in the 1970s. Pretty much the same time they received their first Red-flanked Duikers as well. These were the first species of duikers ever to be displayed at the LA Zoo.

Didn't they also have Jentink's and Yellow-backed duikers at the same time? The LA zoo's collection in the late 60s/early 70s was pretty remarkable (not that it is bad today--it just used to be extraordinary)

Jentink's and Yellow-backed came several years later. Followed even later by Black Duikers. LA's collection currently consists of Black, Red-flanked and Yellow-backed.

I believe there were Bay duikers at LA. I'm not 100% on that but I remember reading a couple years ago that LA obtained a couple Bay duikers from a collector in Canada. The others went to somewhere in Florida.

Pacarana, that is very interesting!
Do you happen to know the name of that collector in Canada or what else he has kept or collected ?
Where did you find out about this ?, it almost sounds like there may be a few bay duikers in the private sector, I say that because they used to be a lot more common than they are now...

I don't remember the name of the collector; I don't think it was given. I read the information on Zoochat a couple years ago. Not sure where though but I heard it during a discussion about duikers. Maybe search duikers in the search bar?
