I love exhibits where it is hard to find animals. I normally visit those exhibits in the early mornings when the big cats are active and most likely to be out of their hiding spots exploring their habitats. Do either Oklahoma City or Memphis have some of the best jaguar/snow leopard exhibits?
The Oklahoma City Zoo has a well-planted snow leopard exhibit with plenty of hiding places, and all of the cat enclosures are impressive at that zoo. Memphis has some nice exhibits for a few smaller cats, and their serval enclosure is huge for such a small species. Neither zoo has an absolutely world class cat exhibit, but many excellent ones.
Bronx Zoo's Himalayan Highlands is world-class for Snow Leopards, and Woodland Park's Jaguar Cove, Miami's Amazon & Beyond, and Jacksonville's Range of the Jaguar are the three world-class jaguar exhibits in the nation.
@reduakari: that is an extremely bold statement coming from someone who is notoriously critical of major zoo habitats...haha. Do you have some insight into the new exhibit? Is it going to be located next to the red panda enclosure?
It (two snow leopard enclosures) will be located on the hill near the red pandas. It is being designed and built by the same team that created Himalayan Highlands at the Bronx, so I have great confidence it will improve on that already-great exhibit (now 20+ years old).
