The mountain Lion exhibit seems small. Is the zoo considering expanding that exhibit in paticular? Also, the exhibit seems like the Mountain Lion has few places to climb. I would consider putting more branches and logs to encorage the Lion to climb.
The exhibit is actually quite large and has some large oaks in it for climbing. If you are in the Sacramento region then this small zoo may be a worthwhile destination to check out. It has seen some hard budgetary times that unfortunately resulted in loss of AZA accreditation, but hopefully they will regain it and finish the long-stalled snow leopard and small-clawed otter exhibits.

They have a great Madagascar exhibit called "Islands Lost In Time" that has a nice lemur exhibit, terrariums with hissing cockroaches and tomato frog, and a radiated tortoise exhibit.
The zoo used to have sea lions until 2009, but they could not modernize the exhibit so they sent the sea lions away.
Not having AZA accreditation has taken a toll. They used to have a colony of Rodrigues fruit bats, but had to send it away. Hopefully they will get accreditation and bats back sometime soon. They have a very good director and staff.
I've been reading many reports and articles about the zoo's East end project and they keep bringing up the "long term master plan." Has anyone found a link to the actual master plan itself? It sounds like an interesting topic for this small, quaint zoo.

Hi Viper, I have wondered about this plan too and have not actually seen it. There were media reports about it that indicated there were plans for penguins and Komodo dragons. I think at the time of their master plan they were still planning to have sea lions, but they closed down the exhibit when it was determined that it was too expensive to keep it. You've probably read all of this too.
It seems like they have a new plan maybe with the help that Terry Maple is giving them. The media reports mention a new gibbon exhibit and completion of the snow leopard and otter complex.
