The aviary for striated caracaras (Phalcoboenus australis) in ZOO Antwerpen. The smaller Bird of Prey Aviaries are easily the dullest and worst functioning exhibits in the zoo.

The Bird of Prey aviaries that were originally built as part of the Jubilee Complex which opened in 1968 to celebrate the zoo’s 125th anniversary (also including the Nocturama, Aquaforum and Carnivore exhibits).

ZOO Antwerpen, July 2011.

Again, enough room to fly, with plenty of shelter; not a bad Caracara enclosure.

Looks like we have different opinions on how much you need to have "room to fly". But I will agree that the exhibit is worse for visitors than for the animals.

After all, it's the animal that has to live in it; and I think there is reasonable space for a manouverable and agile flyer like a Caracara to exercise in, given that no aviary can give a bird the opportunities to do what it does in the wild.
