@FunkyGibbon Just really small, uninspired and bland. It's not that long and looks better in the picture than it does in person. The indoor areas are even worse. Not quite as bad as the pachyderm exhibits but still pretty weak. A lot of it also is that there are PLENTY of above average giraffe exhibits in the country so when a dud shows up it appears quite unflattering
Surely exactly 50% of the giraffe exhibits are above average
I suppose it may indeed be one of the worst you have personally seen, but then I would suggest you have been a little lucky.
Off the top of my head of the ones I've seen Memphis, Los Angeles, San Diego, Central Florida and Philadelphia are as weak if not weaker than this one. Are you saying you would classify this one as average instead of poor? What giraffe exhibits have you seen that this one is better than?
You have the advantage of me here because you've actually seen it. Maybe it is really a lot smaller than it looks and maybe all that nice grass means it can't be used in winter. And of course the indoor housing is out of shot. However, it looks to be the equal or better of most Asian zoos and plenty of European ones as well. My main reason for commenting was that I can't see anything objectionable from this picture. I know you value naturalism more than me, but Giraffe houses are so tall that I struggle to think of many exhibits that don't immediately scream Zoo enclosure.
Milwaukee's exhibit isn't terrible, but the barn is quite small and the outdoor yard is pretty basic. However, a nice feeding deck and a panorama with the rhino exhibits makes this a decent exhibit.
