"The Milwaukee County Zoo, along with the Zoological Society of Milwaukee, are honoring Wisconsin's only bear species - the American black bear. In the future, look for many new and improved areas in this exhibit space. Included in these upgrades will be a new waterfall and filtration system meant to conserve water usage while promoting water conservation. It is the goal of the Zoo to support conservation of animals while offering them enriched lives. The future promises a more natural habitat for our bears, thus stimulating natural behavior while greatly enhancing their environment. We graciously thank MillerCoors for their support of this unique project."
Is there any word on this that anyone knows of? In an article from 2013, they said the exhibit would be done in 2015, but I haven't seen any work on it since they added the taller trees and better waterfall in 2013.

As of my visit a few weeks ago, there has been no other progress at all on this exhibit. Maybe they're focusing on the second entrance project for now, and will come back to the bears later...

That would make sense I suppose. I'd really love to see them turn the exhibit into what is pictured on the sign soon though!
Any word on the new entrance/parking lot? I know they're planning on having it open by mid-June. When I was there over the weekend, there was nothing but a bunch of trucks and dirt in the area.
I feel like A LOT of the zoo's future projects are going to revolve around the zoo interchange freeway project....

Regarding the second entrance project: according to an article I read a few months ago, the parking lot will be open by mid-June, along with a "temporary entrance," and the actual entry plaza and otter exhibit will open next year.
And, yes, I can't wait for the final product for the bear exhibit renovation either. Maybe the drawing isn't showing everything, but I was disappointed not to see any sign of a viewing window area. Other than that, I think it'll be a welcome improvement.

Thank you for the update, I can't wait to see the otter exhibit! But it leaves me wondering what they'll do with the otter exhibit in the Small Mammal Building...
Yes, a viewing window would be nice! We'll have to wait and see what the future holds.
