Australia Building- Matschie's Tree Kangaroo exhibit (female side)

This side of the screen separating the zoo\'s breeding pair of tree kangaroos, is the female tree kangaroo. New branches were added and re-arranged to allow the tree kangaroos to climb nearly 15 feet off the ground in summer 2014. The screen is opened in two small doorways during the breeding season allowing the pair to access both side of the exhibit.

The male, Kokoda, was sent to Boston last year. Not sure if a new male is in Milwaukee or not. From what I gather, Kokoda and his former lady were quite prolific.

The Milwaukee County Zoo has had GREAT successes with breeding tree kangaroos. The zoo's elderly female, Kiama, has had 6 joeys in Milwaukee! (They believe this is more joeys than any single tree kangaroo has ever raised)
Kiama does not breed anymore as she is 17 years old, and we have a young female born at the zoo in 2011. The former breeding male, Kokoda, did indeed leave last spring.
The zoo's new breeding pair is female, Tia who was born at the Milwaukee County Zoo in 2011, and the male, Ronji, arrived in May 2014 from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, where he was born in 2012.
I have actually seen the two breeding and hopefully another joey will be born!
