If anyone knows the Antwerp gorillas well enough to let me know which individual this is, I\'d be grateful!

Gorilla at antwerp

Lovely photos, can't help with the gorilla but wondering if you had a chance to see the chimps, I haven't been for a couple of years and am thinking of going to Antwerp very soon,

Cheers

This is Amahoro.
Amahoro is larger and hairier than Victoria. (Victoria looks quite old, because her fur seems to be thinning.)

Thanks Trebaruna - just what I wanted to know.

GorillaFollower - I did see the chimps, but didn't pay too close attention if I'm honest. I know when I first went to Antwerp the chimps were labelled as P. t. schweinfurthii but aren't any more - don't know if that's change of animals or change of opinion. The ones I saw first time were quite pale of face though, so it may well be the former.

Am I right in saying that antwerp is the only place in europe that keep easternlowland/grauer's and mountains?

Yes, all the others have only Western Lowland.

Pretty sure it's the only place anywhere that keeps either of those taxa - it's certainly the only place anywhere with mountain gorilla.

I thought it wasn't a mountain? I was sure I'd read that on here at some point.

It's still open to debate I think - IF there is a Mountain then Amahoro is it.

It would have been illegal back then to get the animal if it was a mountain-gorilla. So you can wait forever on a true statement from the zoo.
