I didn't actually, because it was still warm enough to walk around the zoo, even in early October (I was even wearing shorts; the locals who saw me no doubt thought I was crazy, especially the girl in the ticket booth who had wrapped herself in a blanket ). But I understand that visiting the zoo in winter is horribly cold so many people just stay on the monorail and don't walk at all. The monorail is no doubt heated.
