Snow Monkey Exhibit

Did the Snow Monkeys play in the snow? Is this concrete-themed Japanese Macaque exhibit a product of the zoo's 1978 debut? It is actually not a terrible exhibit by any means (the zoo is arguably one of the best dozen in the nation) but the Master Plan calls for a complete overhaul of it within the next couple of years. First up will be the rejuvenation of Discovery Bay into a habitat for Hawaiian Monk Seals, then I believe the focus will be on the Snow Monkey exhibit and the many other plans for the future.

Yes! They were playing in the snow and climbing the branches. They were lots of fun to watch. Honestly, I would keep this exhibit and save the money to add on to other parts of the zoo. This exhibit is plenty big and even with the concrete it still looks good.

Does anybody know if this exhibit was ever renovated, or is it still like this as of 2023?

@DavidBrown Still exactly the same, unfortunately. I'm pretty sure all plans of renovation were either pushed back or scrapped entirely a while ago, despite the clearly aging concrete of the exhibit.
