Black Spitting Cobra Exhibit (with a crack in the glass!)

Dec. 4th, 2013.
Quite dangerous I would say and I'm sure there are a lot of countries where such an enclosure would be forbidden !

I totally agree and I could scarcely believe that there was a spitting cobra in this small tank. The top of the terrarium was wire mesh and that could also pose a danger as well.

I could be wrong, I think leaving cracked glass like that is forbidden in AZA...

For Non-AZA zoos, many US states are lenient about this sort of thing, but California is certainly not one of them...

I would be extremely disturbed to come across a spitting cobra in a tank where the top was mesh and low enough to enable visitors to put their faces over!!

A thought, given that these reptiles are from "rescue" situations, perhaps this individual has had its fangs removed? (I'm not sure if having the fangs removed would prevent spitting but I assume it would given that the venom is ejected through channels in the fangs themselves).

Fangs can grow back.

Is the lid even padlocked? From what I can see in the photo it doesn't appear to be (but there may be padlocks out of view).
