This Giant River Otter exhibit (of which I uploaded several photos into the gallery) is outstanding and the only flaw is the presence of a large black tire in the center of the sandy beach area. Why, Moody Gardens, why, why, why?
I don't know how deep the pool is but I do know that there is a small but fairly deep pool over by the far viewing windows and then a little stream that cascades into the larger pool. The single otter that I saw didn't stop moving and that is why the animal is not in any of my photos. It was either a blur of brown or too many visitors were plastered to the glass looking at it. Overall I think this exhibit is terrific (tire notwithstanding) and certainly spacious enough for the species.
There used to be numerous species of waterfowl in this enclosure many years ago. Then with bringing in the otters they added that window view area with that small pool against it. And the tire of course
