Gibbon Islands - White-Cheeked + Siamang

August 6th, 2010.
I noticed a thread on one of the Bronx Zoo's photos that was discussing the quality of the gibbon exhibit inside the JungleWorld building. In terms of sheer lushness, climbing opportunities and naturalism the pair of gibbon islands at the Nashville Zoo might just be the best of their kind in the United States. It is difficult to tell if the species are mixed, but the separate islands are a sight to behold!

In fact, browsing through the gallery of the Nashville Zoo brings back many fond memories for me, as that establishment might be small but the quality found there is outstanding. From the lush, green exhibits for gibbons, the 3-acre elephant paddock, the 1.5 acre Masai giraffe enclosure, the fantastic reptile house, the huge meerkat exhibit, and basically the entire zoo is of a very high quality. Of course modern landscaping and exhibitry have combined brilliantly, as the Nashville Zoo only opened to the public in 1997.
