What happened to the Beluga Whales ? I could find them in the 1986 Guidebook, they were originally housed in the Marine Mammal Tray Exhibit with 260,000 gallons of water, so I think, the dolphins, which can be seen in the same exhibit, came later to the aquarium, or were they kept together with the beluga whales ? I don't think so !
If you have any pictures of the whales at Baltimore I would love to see them. The aquarium had four beluga whales. When the Marine Mammal Pavilion openend in 1990, five dolphins and three whales inhabited the same area (Illamar died of gastritis (a disease of the pancreas) before the expansion was completed). Then on Christmas Day 1991 a dolphin struck Anore in the rib cage, breaking some bones. No one was sure exatically what happened or what dolphin struck Anore. However, after a short period she died of internal bleeding. Kia and Sikku were quickly separated from the dolphins and moved to Sea World of San Antonio in 1992 were they still remain today.
