This is the start of a very long process of cleaning up the Inner Harbor to make it swimmable and fishable by the year 2020. There have been an increase is fish and crabs in the harbor and these wetlands provide vital habitat. The wetlands also help suck up excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorous, that cause dead zones throughout the harbor and Chesapeake Bay. There are already a number of these throughout the Harbor, with many more planned for the future.
