Are they breeding? When I visited the National Aquarium in July, I saw one and thought It was one of the most beautiful birds I had ever seen (not knowing what it wa at the time).

I was there yesterday. The staff on duty said that there are probably chicks in the motmot burrow. The last time I was there, they only had a female on exhibit and now they not only have a pair, but a happy one at that!
On the other hand, the pihas are not as compatible. The male was singing louder than ever, but the staff said the female was disinterested and usually not even seen with him. It took me the entire visit to even find her -- and, as expected, she was not with the male.
