This is a ridiculously atrocious exhibit for just about any bird, let alone an exotic from Australia. The potted plants seem temporary, the foliage on top of the metal cage is probably better than nothing, and this AZA-accredited facility should be ashamed for even having this cage visible to the public.
Little wonder we are not rushing to send other natives to the US. I have seen similar sub par exhibits for kookaburras at Omaha and KC. Is this from lack of appreciation? as both zoos have suitable aviaries in particular KC with its walk through OZ aviary.
I know l am biased here but to see and hear a kookaburra call in my backyard is really one of the most amazing sights, that never ceaeses to impress me. They really do seem to be laughing at us!
On a side note it was on the evening news a couple of nights ago that the government is in the process of selecting one or more US zoos to send Tasmanian Devils, to assist with the captive insurance program.
