Will folks in North Carolina actually see polar bears swim in this underwater viewing area? The zoo is probably one of the 10 best in North America, but its upgraded polar bear complex (costing $8.5 million) might not have any white-furred occupants in the future. One bear recently died while the second individual is elderly and on loan at Milwaukee County Zoo. Perhaps grizzlies will take the place of the intended inhabitants, and it is a shame that with so many new polar bear exhibits on the horizon (North Carolina, Saint Louis, Oregon, Henry Vilas, etc) that finding animals has turned into a tricky business.
