(But to be sure: Omahas Henry Doorly Zoo is neither the biggest in size nor in collection or attendance. And North Carolina Zoo is a very good zoo - but the best in the world????)
Im not counting Safari Parks, so Omaha is the biggest in the world, right And there was once a news story declaring it so I thought it was. ( Then I dont know which is the biggest. ) But North Carolina does have the best exhibits for its species compared to any other zoo, ( size and natural factor ) and has a nice diversity of species so I say its the best!
@Malayan Tiger: Obviously it was not ironic and so I have to tell you that you are wrong. According to wikipedia, Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo has 53 ha (130 acres). Tierpark Berlin (not Zoo Berlin!) has 160 ha (400 acres). And Whipsnade Zoo near London with 600 acres is even bigger (although some consider it as a Safari Park as well). Even in the US, at least Bronx Zoo New York and North Carolina Zoo are bigger in size then the one in Omaha.
In No. of species, Zoo Berlin (and probably Beijing Zoo) have a bigger collection. So maybe the report you've been watching was not based on a good research.
Also: I don't know how many zoo in other continents you have visited for a fair judgement. Sometimes it could help to look over the hedge (means: across the ocean)...
