Located in the lower level of the Desert Dome Building, this is an absolute wonderland of nocturnal exhibits but difficult to photograph! My apologies to the bats in the Wet Cave and Dry Cave exhibit areas for using a flash!

That pool on the ground is deep! This nocturnal house must be the best on the planet, and many people argue that it is perhaps the best thing about this great zoo.
I walked up to the 16-foot deep pool simply because I was shocked to see the lack of signage around it. There are blind cave fish swimming around in that deep abyss, and I wonder if any little kid has ever fallen inside?
There is a barrier submerged. I still not sure how you access to feed fish or catch any of them up.
While I was there most visitors walked right past this pool and was not even seeing the fish, of course I was fixated on a deep tank with no barrier and no sign.

The flash reveals all: note the square pattern on the floor to the right of the pool--it is likely an access hatch that opens to the pool otherwise isolated by the glass panel set 10 inches below the surface. This is a brilliant highlight of what is without question the best nocturnal exhibit anywhere. But, in the "harsh light of day" many of these exhibits are revealed as quite small and un-enriched for their residents.
