funny you say that, because i think if you spent half as much time trying to absorb other statements as you do trying to extravagantly denounce them, you'd probably agree with people more often.
and heres a classic example of you being so fixated in sounding smart you con yourself into thinking other's have made statements they havent.
i clearly stated on numerous occasions that views were beneficial to all species and noted that it was particularly important for smart animals, like apes.
you respond by quizzing me as to why views are only important for apes.
also, your reality seems to not include double or triple glazing - a technique used to insulate glass or the fact that height and thus a vantage point, need not be created by moving earth. have you forgotten that all apes climb? and that being high creates a view? so if an ape is provided with a climbing frame and or a high ceiling and window (if indoors) it is thus provided with a vista?
so sun wukong,
could you please do me a favour - because despite what you may think i don't enjoy this back and forth nit picking, it actually wastes a lot of my time and unnecessarily frustrates me - so just do me this one favour and listen to me when i tell you - its not us, ITS YOU!
There is no need to be ****** and offensive, @phoenix. Personal insults, like you already tried to use on other users in this thread, who disagree with you, won't help to convey your opinion; in fact, they only weaken it, as your whole argumentation seems to be limited to trading insults, not thoughts.
So when it comes to asking for favours, may I ask you for one? Could you please cool down that quick temper of yours in the next posts, and not treat any post disagreeing with you as an insult? This would provide better discussions, and might prevent you from dying prematurely, due to choleric overexcitement. Thank you in advance.
About your reply:
-All animals? I don't think so. There are several species where constant direct sunlight would do more harm than good. Direct views might irritate the animal more than it would benefit it-including "intelligent" animals. And what about the wild birds?
I "quizzed" because there is an obvious tendency both among zoos and zoo "geeks" to concentrate on a few charismatic species, and neglect all the others. That I find worth mentioning and working against whenever this aspect arises.
-Insulating glass (again: price!) can only slighty decrease the problem of heat loss, but increases the problem of overheating.
-Glass windows up on higher level? The zoo staff will be glad for that extra piece of elaborate cleaning work...And it does not gurantee an "overview" over the zoo, nor a use by the apes.
Not unrealistic, but the average zoo staff, as sound human beings, usually aims to create less than more work.
An enclosure with constant exposure to direct sunlight can be not suitable for certain species of animals and plants due to various reasons. Ever had to place an aquarium or terrarium in your domestic household?
There is neither a need to feel sorry that you're unable to comprehend basic aspects, nor one for rhetorical questions you don't want to hear the answers to...

You're just fighting someone that doesn't want to and I don't want to start anything.
I see your point about zoo keepers not wanting to create more work so that would rule out windows that are too high. If the windows were on ground level the animals could still have a view and see things going on around them. For big, intelligent animals that need to be indoors for winter (tropical tiger species, gorillas, orang-utans etc) an overview of their summertime enclosure would be beneficial during the winter months. And a window doesn't mean direct sunlight. My bedroom window for example faces south and my bedroom doesn't get any direct sunlight all year. I don't know which way the sun faces in the Northern Hemisphere but I'm sure there would be a way to face it that it wouldn't get any direct sunlight and this would help with overheating etc.
That's un-necessary!
And I think that the idea that they wouldn't have those windows in a roof because it would cause more cleaning is ridiculous, there's plenty of tropical houses that are built entirely out of glass.
Looking at this, I think it'd be amazing if they simply pulled a Cincinnati and replaced the hard floor with wood chips. It's more aesthetically pleasing and far more comfortable for the apes
