These lemur and monkey cages should really have been torn down a few decades ago, and it is puzzling why such a good zoo (with many spectacular exhibits) still has a number of downright horrible cages for primates. Omaha has always been a contrast between massive, overwhelming habitats, and outdated, decrepit cages.

I'm wondering why the zoo still has this exhibit, we are in the 21st century and they still haven't renovated this exhibit, then that is sad.

The thing is most of the primate species in these cages (I think there are 4 like this) is that they're represented in better exhibits in Lied Jungle or elsewhere.

Ah - Spare Male Holding Area syndrome!

Looks very similar to several exhibits in the old Children's Zoo at the Los Angeles Zoo, demolished over 20 years ago.

They remind me of the 4 monkey cages at the San Diego Zoo in the Bear Canyon.

The LA zoo still has 4 similar cages in the back road, but they are way bigger than the one shown here.

After my recent visit to the Omaha zoo, I am happy to announce that these cages are now empty!

Evidence that the zoo's new director is less of a "collector" than his predecessor (who did great things, but who clearly always felt that "more is more").
