Desert Dome

July 6th, 2012.
Does anything live on the pile of dirt?

Nothing! However, it is part of the Namib Desert area and there are 300 tons of red sand that is the first thing visitors see as they enter the world-famous Desert Dome. It is thus empty and spectacular at the same time.

When the dome first opened there was a mechanism that was supposed to allow "sandfalls" down the face of the dune to show the physical process by which these dunes form - not sure if it still works.
