Not incredible if you're the hyrax though. If this exhibit weren't immersively spectacular and the hyrax was just in this space in a normal cage you would likely go ballistic (justifiably) as you do with zoos that have exhibits like this without the spectacular scenery - how does this translate to Omaha being an "awesome" zoo?

That doesn't. But you have to consider everything about a zoo. One or multiple bad or great exhibits do not automatically make a zoo better than poor or worse than great.

In total, Omaha's highs are arguably the best of any zoo in the country.

Yes, they have some serious flaws, but when combined with the positives, I think it's an elite zoo. If and when many other zoos approximately match Omaha's highs without having the lows, Omaha will lose it's high status if they don't also improve.

Luckily, it does seem like many improvements are on the way. Unfortunately, some of the issues in the epic indoor structures may continue to be blemishes, though.

It's definitely a difficult zoo to judge.

On inspecting the exhibit personally, yes the shelves are interconnected and the hyrax can move about the wall.

On my recent visit, it didn't seem like the hydrax are still on these ledges, but I may be wrong. They are exhibited elsewhere in the zoo in the relatively new African Grasslands exhibit.

This area is empty today.

I bet it would have been very fun to see hyrax appearing on these ledges, disappearing into interconnected behind the scenes holdings, then coming out another hole.
