Oregon Zoo - Polar Bear Exhibit

August 2008. Small land area with bolted down tree trunks that are immovable. This concrete hits 100 degrees in the summer and is on the list for a renovation in the next couple of years.

The swimming area is represented in a number of the photos that I've posted from the Oregon Zoo, and is easily the best part of the habitat. The zoo's own director, Tony Vecchio, has been highly critical of what I consider to be a terrible polar bear exhibit. The soaring temperatures on the concrete, the hard surface everywhere except for 6 feet of grass, the lack of enrichment as many of the items are bolted to the ground...I could go on but it's due to be renovated in a couple of years anyway.
