Red Ape Reserve, the new home for orangutans and gibbons, was supposed to open in 2008! Now 2010 is looking likely, so what happened to construction? Did "Predators of the Serengeti" become the main focus? That set of habitats opened in time for the annual AZA Conference, but I'm still awaiting word on when the $125 million bond exhibits will begin to be renovated (elephants, polar bears, chimps, etc).
I think that is what happened. I think the Predators became the higher priority. The behind-the-scenes bond money is likely to be spent first (veterinary facility, sewage upgrade, penguin and hippo filtration systems, etc...) but I would guess that little that isn't already under construction will happen until they hire a director. They still haven't replaced Tony Vecchio.
