The Oregon Zoo's primate house is what ex-director Tony Vecchio publicly called "a disgrace". With the upcoming orangutan/gibbon overhaul, then the future redevelopment of the chimp exhibit, this area will hopefully look much better about 5 years from now.

Is it a disgrace because it's on show and doesn't look pretty? It looks like most off show indoor primate enclosures.

I think the term "disgrace" referred more to the indoor chimpanzee facility, at least that was my interpretation of the statement when Tony Vecchio said it.

@Ituri: you might very well be correct, but at least ex-director Tony Vecchio was honest enough to bash his own zoo. I'm eagerly awaiting the new orangutan/gibbon enclosure, but as I've pointed out before it was supposed to open in 2008 and it is now almost 2010!
