Asian Elephant Exhibit

March 4th, 2010.
This fairly small exhibit will be replaced by a 6-acre habitat, and there are still plans for a 100-acre series of off-exhibit outdoor yards in a 140-acre elephant complex. The link below has all of the details, including some site designs by the company CLR, and if it all works out according to the plans (the finances are already in place) then Oregon will surely have one of the better Asian elephant centers in the world.

I seem to remember photos of Oregon's elephant exhibit being surrounded by high rocky walls. Is that another exhibit or am I confusing it with somewhere else?

There are at least 7 elephants (and one is currently pregnant and due to give birth this fall) at the zoo and two main yards. Here is the second, smaller yard with the high rocky walls:

That looks amazing! Do you think that with the 100-acre off-exhibit space, this will probably become the #1 Asian Elephant exhibit in America? It seems that the Asians get overlooked by Africans...
