It will be interesting to see what happens with this badly outdated area of the zoo, as the 4 remaining chimps are all elderly. I wonder if a new troop will be brought in within the next 5-10 years.
Does anybody know when the new chimp exhibit is scheduled to be built? Is that still part of Oregon Zoo's building plan or was it one of the projects that got dropped?
The plans on the zoo website for the primate renovation mention mandrills and chimps, but are vague enough that cannot tell if these species are still part of the plans.

I've always understood it to be chimpanzees, although the current enclosure is certainly not awful by any means. The indoor holding areas are outdated and rather terrible, but the outside zones are decent. I believe that the main focus is on elephants and condors in the next 2-3 years, with polar bears, black rhinos and chimpanzees longer term goals.
