The latest issue of National Geographic (Dec. 2013) has 18 pages of text and photos devoted to cougars, and there is a focus on the expansion of the animals throughout the United States. Of the 6 subspecies (with a possible 7th in Florida according to the article) there are 5 that live in Latin America. Cougars are faring better than any other big cat species in the world, and Oregon Zoo has been the home of many of the cats over the past few years.
