Dire wolves

The dire wolves were larger than grey wolves and once roamed through out Pleistocene North America.

They are now famous for being in "Game of Thrones", but they were real. Sadly this is now the only way to see them.

I had an argument with someone just last weekend about dire wolves living once upon a time. This would be a way cooler way to prove it than a Wikipedia article.

Between this diorama and the wall of 400 individual skulls opposite it I feel confident in saying that this is the most spectacular dire wolf exhibit anywhere.

The Page Museum is highly recommended for any nature enthusiast visiting Los Angeles. It is probably Zoochat blasphemy to say this, but if one had to chose between going to the La Brea tar pits museum or the LA Zoo I would recommend the tar pits. Hopefully no one would actually have to make that choice, as it would be possible to see both places in one (very busy) day.

Great exhibits on this gallery, with superb museum design. When did the dire wolves become extinct ?

The closest anyone can tell seems to be about 10,000 years ago when the smilodon, mammoths, ground sloths, camels, etc. disappeared also.
