three pumas

September 15, 2010
What a lovely group shot.
I saw these 3 sisters in May 2010, they were all playing happily with each other.
They had a very sad start to life but seem to have found a happy life in Philly.

They were in the exhibit that normally rotates between amur and snow leopards. There was a newly arrived snow leopard in the puma habitat (apparently very skittish - they had barriers to keep people away from the glass and it always stayed in the top cliff in the back).

This shot was taken through the glass on the second viewing of the leopard habitat - the end of the cat trail (after the siberian tigers).

OK, I didn't know the puma's also rotated, but I'm glad they do.
I thought this was a very interesting area of the zoo (in general I loved the place, only areas that were a let down was for the hippo's and okapi).
Were there 2 snow leopards when you visited as I'm sure I saw one in another part of the zoo when I visited.

Now that you mention it, I think there was another one in an older area called Carnivore Kingdom (in a cage that is way too small for a big cat).

Yep that's the one I saw too, and yes the cage was too small, so hopefully he / she is the one that's moved to the new area.
