Poitou Donkey Exhibit (Old Elephant Enclosure)

July 31st, 2010.
Does anyone know if the Pachyderm House has been altered since it was built in 1940? Has there been any significant changes to the structure? Will it be incorporated into the brand-new Children's Zoo?

Not sure on the first two questions, but there is construction going on all around it for the Children's Zoo.

Elephants replaced with donkeys. No political significance here:rolleyes:

What is the best use of an old elephant exhibit that anyone has seen?

Vienna is a very good example. The former elephant exhibit was first used for mandrills after the elphants have moved to their new home and now it is a very good exhibt for the giant pandas.:)

Frankfurt has made a rhino exhibit out of the former elephant exhibit, which is nice, but it will be rebuild and enlarged in the next years, and Leipzig is still using its 75 years old elephant house and exhibit for elephants, after they have enlarged and rebuild it into a very good and modern home for elephants, including an indoor exhibit with underwater viewing, very impressive !:)
