Excellent viewing platform for the excellent bighorn sheep exhibit. They just fenced off a pre-existing mountain, one that probably held wild bighorns a century ago. What is even better, the very nice silver telescopes - are you ready for this - are actually free!!! Can you imagine that in an American zoo?

About the finest mountain exhibit I've seen anywhere, and that includes San Diego Wild Animal Park. Makes me a bit more serious about taking that Phoenix trip this year.

The Living Desert in your state (California) does the exact same thing - fenced off a pre-existing mountain for desert bighorn enclosure. Virtually same size and shape as the one in Phoenix (except without the nice viewing platform Phoenix has).

Well, if you've read my thread on proposed trips for 2010, The Living Desert is high on my list of institutions to visit this year. Just one of those visits I've continued to put off over the years. Maybe I'll be able to compare both Phoenix and The Living Desert's mountain habitats before the year is up.
