javelina at night

In case some zoochat members are wondering Javelina comes from the spanish word for wild boar jabali, and in specific jabalina is a female wild boar. Only collared peccaries are called javelinas, i have also heard the word in Northern Mexico. White lipped peccaries are never called javelinas. It is interesting that the word remains in popular use in the american southwest which afterall was first colonized by the spanish.
 
Yes, no one in the southwest uses the English name peccary, we all use the Spanish name javelina. And everyone knows that the J is pronounced like an H, even if they do not speak Spanish.
