Recently in regards to that photo. He returned in May 2004 from DAK. A few months ago, Jackson was moved to the zoo's new conservation center south of Pittsburgh.
And the females ? I think, they moved Jack out of the zoo because they need more space for Moja and Savannah with their in July 2008 born daughters and for the 2000 born Victoria and Calee ?
I believe the plan now is to renovate the barn to allow for a larger herd and take out the seperate bull yard? and open it into the herd yard. Philly's African elephants will soon be transferred to the Conservation center and all the breeding will take place there.
The zoo was also considering building a new elephant exhibit in the old hoofstock yards above the gorilla yard. Pittsburgh in the past has taken their time developing new exhibits, so it maybe a couple more years before we see a new development open at the zoo.
