It won an AZA exhibit award, but that was 25 years ago. I've been to the Point Defiance Zoo twice and I was a little disappointed with the enclosure. It is difficult to gauge the size of it due to the immersion of the background in with the habitat, and the viewing areas are not the best. Underwater viewing is a major bonus, but as usual in polar bear enclosures there is a lot of concrete for the bears to walk on. Overall it has been surpassed by many other Arctic-themed exhibits, and of course nothing can compare to Detroit's Arctic Ring of Life.
